1. The Clean Air Partners
Clean Air Partners program is the heart of the organization. Clean Air Partners are employers who voluntarily work to reduce harmful emissions. They pledge to actively reduce ozone precursor and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) emissions. Partners report their progress annually and pay partnership dues based on company size. Currently, we have almost 40 partners representing industry, manufacturing, government, education, and non-profits.
2. Air Quality Professionals Forum
Every three months, we bring together Air Quality Practitioners from our Clean Air Partners to network and learn. Quarterly lunch meetings with technical presentations by air quality experts provide training and interaction with other professionals from various industries. The professional development of these practitioners equips them with the latest scientific information and Air Quality best practices. Forum Proceedings
3. Meteorologists Annual Luncheon
Each summer, we hold the Annual Meteorologists Luncheon. We bring together regional weathercasters to inform them about regional Air Quality issues and thank them for helping publicize Ozone Action Days.
4. Ozone Action Day Notifications
When an Ozone Action Day is called, we launch an email notification system informing the public about the day and providing tips and pointers to reduce ozone formation. This is a free service; residents can sign up for notifications on our website. Sign up on our home page!
5. Air Quality Education and Awareness
We maintain a variety of activities to keep residents aware of Air Quality issues. We participate in awareness events and use our website, news releases, newsletters, and social media to educate and inform the public about the impact of harmful air pollution.
6. “Be Air Smart” PM Sensor School Program
We place PurpleAir Particulate Matter sensors in local schools, libraries, YMCAs, and community centers, along with educational materials to teach school children and members of the public about air quality issues. The Be Air Smart program is a joint project with the City of Austin, Austin ISD, the Capitol Area Council of Governments, and Austin FC. Sensors are offered free of charge. If your school or organization would like a sensor, let us know! Read more about the Be Air Smart Program.
7. Community Projects
We actively interact with industry, local government, and the community on projects impacting the community’s air quality. We also regularly attend air quality-related conferences and events to inform our partners about community, state, and federal issues. Currently, we are working on a project with Travis County to measure the impact of Cement Batch Plants on nearby communities. We are also working with the City of Austin on ways to reduce truck and car idling.
